I came across this book while doing some local history research about the lives of people living in our area during WW1. One resident appeared to be the branch secretary for the local branch of the British Women’s Temperance Association, which we were keen to find out more about. The book really brought the movement and its position in society into a sharp focus through telling the stories of a number of extraordinary women, who did so much to change the position of women in society in Victorian Britain. Having found the book as part of my research, I also found it to be an interesting, clear and informative read.
